Update of the universe of concentrated human settlements. Period October 2012 - December 2017.

The update of the universe of concentrated human settlements 2012 - 2017 had three fundamental objectives: to provide information for government decision-making, update the Universe of Human Settlements Concentrated in the General Plans of Territorial and Urban Planning, and update the statistical information of the country With respect to the settlements,what will be used in the Population and Housing Census to be carried out in Cuba, around 2022.

With the purpose of developing this task, three Temporary Working Groups were created: one national with the participation of six specialists from the National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI) and the Institute of Physical Planning (IPF);and the Provincial Working Groups and of all the municipalities of the country, with the exception of the 15 of the provinceof Havana. These working groups were led by a government representative and with the participation of the Physical Planning directorates of the ONEI of each instance and a member of the National Commission of Geographical Names (CNNG).

The municipal groups, by observing the territory, determined the concentrated human settlements arising, either by new creation or by resurgence, human settlements registered in previous Population and Housing Census (CPV) (1970 or 1981).

The results integrate the reports prepared by the provincial commissions and point towards the existence of 141 new settlements and 162 casualties, either because they disappeared or did not comply with the parameter established for the consideration of concentrated human settlement, in accordance with the concept used in the Census of Population and Housing 2012.
